Makuta VFX was founded in 2010 by Adel Adili, R.C. Kamalakannan, and Pete Draper, following their groundbreaking collaboration on Magadheera (2009). Inspired by the success of that project, the founding team — with strategic input from S.S. Rajamouli and support from Raja Koduri and Dasaradha Gude launched a new generation VFX studio to elevate Indian cinema.
The name Makuta was suggested by Raja Koduri during early team discussions, and the company’s iconic logo was designed by Adel Adili during the initial registration process in Hyderabad. Both became enduring symbols of the brand’s creative identity.
Over the next decade, Makuta became synonymous with high-end visual effects, contributing to some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema, including:
-
Magadheera (2009)
-
Eega (2012)
-
Baahubali: The Beginning (2015)
-
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
-
RRR (2022)
The studio’s work earned widespread recognition, including:
-
National Film Award for Best Special Effects for Magadheera, Eega, and Baahubali
-
Filmfare Award for Best Visual Effects – Eega
-
CineMAA Award for Best VFX – Eega
Makuta officially concluded operations in 2022, leaving behind a decade-long legacy of visual excellence that reshaped Indian cinema. Its legacy continues through MCA Timber, a new creative venture founded by Adel Adili in the UK.
